Welcoming of students from Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted and Ngo Quyen High School

On December 30, 2022, the School of Biotechnology, International University – Vietnam National University of Ho Chi Minh City, welcomed students of Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted (HCMC) and Ngo Quyen High School (Dong Nai province) for touring of advanced laboratories of the School of Biotechnology, e.g. Food Processing and Food Sensory Laboratory, Chemistry Laboratory, Cellular Reprogramming Laboratory (CRLab), Laboratory of Plant Biotechnology.

Throughout this visiting tour, high school students had the opportunity to visit high-tech laboratories of the School of Biotechnology. At the Food Processing Laboratory of the Department of Food Technology, students were introduced with modern lab equipments and research subjects by lecturers and technicians, together with the tempering chocolate technique in chocolate production.

The Cellular Reprogramming Laboratory of the Department of Biotechnology welcomed high school students with world class technologies in embryo production and development in in vitro system, e.g.  Somatic Cell Nuclear Transfer, Intracellular Sperm Injection, and 8-cell Biopsy. Assoc. Prof Nguyen Van Thuan, Dean of the School of Biotechnology, deeply explained applications of cloning technology in the future such as the preservation of endangered animals, human therapy, and pharming – the usage of animals in the production of modified hormones for human therapy.

At the end of the tour, students had a chance to visit the Plant Biotechnology Laboratory of the Department of Biotechnology.  Graduate students of the School of Biotechnology introduced the process of in vitro plant tissue and organ culture and its application in agriculture and human life.

As a result of the tour at the School of Biotechnology, high school students can be able to understand in details Biotechnology and its applications in both daily life and industry, hence, get a clearer intention for the upcoming selection of future career.
