Instructions for Authors

BME7 Conference is endorsed by the International Federation of Medical and Biological Engineering (IFMBE). The submissions will go through a peer-review process with at least 2 reviewers. The full-text paper accepted for the conference will be published by Springer in the "IFMBE Proceedings Series". The IFMBE Proceedings series is an official publication of the International Federation for Medical and Biological Engineering. IFMBE Proceedings are indexed by Google scholar. Thomson Reuters and Scopus index many volumes of IFMBE Proceedings in their ISI Proceedings and the Scopus database, respectively (for further information, please refer to http://www.springer.com/series/7403). The abstract is within the limit of 300 words and the full-text paper is within 6 10 pages (single colunm), must use the template below, and must comply with IFMBE Instructions for Contributing Authors.

All of the abstracts and papers must be submitted via EasyChair system. The deadline to submit the abstract is March 8th, 2018 (Feb 28th, 2018)Acceptance notification of the abstract will be sent out within 15 days after the deadline. Authors with the accepted abstracts will be invited to submit full-paper packages to EasyChair by Mar 30th, 2018 Apr 16th, 2018Submitted full papers will then be peer-reviewed by at least 2 reviewers for the acceptance to the conference. The acceptance notification of the full-text paper will be announced by May 10th, 2018.

Kindly be advised that we ask for full-paper package submission regardless of authors' desired presentation format (Oral or Poster). The goal is to ensure that both Oral and Poster presentations at the BME7 conference meet our quality requirements.

After considering authors' desired presentation format, content of the full-papers, the conference program, etc... we will decide whether the papers shall be presented as Oral presentation or Poster presentation.

Full-paper package includes:

  1. The final source file of your manuscript in single-column with authors' affiliation + corresponding author's email + conflicts of interest statement in the manuscript (required item, MS Word only, must use the single column template below)
  2. A PDF corresponding exactly to the final source file (reccommended)
  3. Zip file of high resolution figures in tiff, eps, xls, xlsx, ppt, pptx format (see below for resolution requirements, NOT required if high resolution figures have already been embedded in the final source file).
  4. Signed Copyright form (required item, see below for Copyright form)

    Note:

The use of single-column manuscript template below is mandatory. This year, we don't accept double-column format.

You can now upload all of the above items to our BME7 EasyChair system. To upload, click the below "Submit paper" button to go to EasyChair page -> login -> click on tab corresponding to your subbmission number/My submission on top bar -> click "Add files"/"Update files"/"Add or update files"... on top right corner -> click choose file to upload items in full-paper package.

All authors must comply to Springer’s ethical policies and include statements in their manuscripts declaring whether there are any conflicts of interest with their paper. Papers will not be published without these statements.

If there is no conflict of interest, the suggested wording can be as follows: The authors declare that they have no conflict of interest.

Figure resolution:

A figure is an object that is drawn or photographed; it does not consist solely of characters and thus cannot be keyed.

Do not submit tabular material as figures.

Graphics and diagrams should be saved as EPS file with the fonts embedded. MS Office files (Excel or PowerPoint) can be submitted in the original format (xls, xlsx, ppt, pptx). Scanned graphics in TIFF format should have a minimum resolution of 1200 dpi.

Photos or drawings with fine shading should be saved as TIFF with a minimum resolution of 300 dpi.

A combination of halftone and line art (e.g., photos containing line drawing or extensive lettering, color diagrams, etc.) should be saved as TIFF with a minimum resolution of 600 dpi.

  Tips
  • Color figures will appear in color in the eBook but may be printed in black and white. In that case, do not refer to color in the captions and make sure that the main information will still be visible if converted to black and white. A simple way to check this is to make a black and white printout to see if the necessary distinctions between the different colors are still apparent. Color illustrations should be submitted as RGB (8 bits per channel).
  • Ensure consistency by using similar sizing and lettering for similar figures. Ideally, you should size figures to fit in the page or column width. For books in Springer’s standard format, the figures should be 78 mm or 117 mm (3 or 4 1/2 inch) wide and not higher than 198 mm (7 3/4 inch).
  • To add lettering, it is best to use Helvetica or Arial (sans serif fonts) and avoid effects such as shading, outline letters, etc. Keep lettering consistently sized throughout your final-sized artwork, usually about 2–3 mm (8–12 pt). Variance of type size within an illustration should be minimal, e.g., do not use 8-pt type on an axis and 20-pt type for the axis label.
